Open issues Missoula Wildlife Feeding Ordinance 3330, Ginny Merriam of the City of Missoula attended the meeting in order to address questions and concerns about the ordinance. 1. Residents are supposed to call Animal Control (AC) for any bear seen in garbage. Be patient, AC is busy and will be receiving a high volume of calls. The first step will be to inform the person of the violation. The next step will be to issue a citation. 2. Erin stated that she would like to make sure AC officers are aware of our efforts and our message so that we are all staying consistent when talking to residents. 3. Mary Manning asked Ginny to talk to Ed (AC) about educating his officers about this effort and about the ordinance since there was some confusion when AC was called this week. 4. James Jonkel (MDFWP) suggested and MOU with Chad Bauer (AWIN), MDFWP, bear mgmt and wardens, and Animal Control in order to discuss and streamline the issuing of tickets. 5. Erin Edge will contact Ed at AC about coming to a brief meeting informing our door-to-door volunteers about the ordinance 6. Since bears must be seen in garbage in order for this ordinance to work volunteers will try and photograph bears in garbage over the next couple of weeks. I V. New business a) Update MDFWP- James Jonkel There are currently 15 active bears in the Rattlesnake. A family group was captured and relocated and trap will be set for a second family group. It is likely that a number of traps will be set for individuals as well. If a bear with a green ear tag (repeat trap) is caught, that bear will be euthanized. MDFWP plans on issuing a press release soon. b) Door-to-Door Efforts 1. Educational door hangers will be printed by the end of the week 2. Erin Edge will schedule an educational meeting for volunteers in order to maintain consistency in our message 3. Mary Manning and Deborah Oberbillig have experience and will be leaders in this effort. 4. Volunteers will be partnered in groups of two and will be assigned streets. 5. We hope to have some of these streets completed by the end of October. Remaining door-hangers will be saved for spring efforts. c) Gleaning Program- The Great Bear Foundation is hard at work picking fruit in the Rattlesnake. If anyone needs fruit picked please contact them at 829-9378. d) www.rattlesnakebears.org is our active website. If you have any information that should go on the website let us know. We are looking for pictures! 1. Mary Manning asked that the attractant and bear sighting forms be on the front page. Erin Edge will do that. V. Adjournment Erin Edge adjourned the meeting at 8:30pm
